What is MTF Transgender Top Surgery?

Male to female transgender top surgery is a gender-affirming plastic surgery procedure that creates the appearance of feminine breasts through the placement of breast implants. This type of breast augmentation procedure involves many important and unique factors, which Dr. Houssock is experienced in handling. Our surgeon’s deep understanding of the complexities of MTF top surgery allow her to create highly customized surgical plans that can support each patient’s well-being and deliver the aesthetic results they desire.

How is MTF Breast Surgery Performed?

Just like traditional breast augmentation procedures, male to female top surgery involves the surgical placement of breast implants either above or below the chest muscle to create and/or accentuate the appearance of feminine breasts. There are many different breast implant types, shapes, and sizes to choose from that can help you achieve your desired breast contours. Additionally, you must also decide on where the incision(s) will be placed—options include inframammary incisions (along the bottom of the breast crease), transaxillary incisions (within the armpit), or periareolar incisions (along the bottom half of the areola). Dr. Houssock will walk you through this selection process and help you decide on the implants and surgical plan that align with your goals and priorities. In order to ensure you make the most educated decisions about your surgery, Dr. Houssock will explain the benefits and drawbacks of every option and indicate which choices she recommends to minimize visible scarring and deliver the most natural-looking aesthetics.

Surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under IV sedation so that you can remain comfortable and asleep throughout the procedure. Every MTF top surgery is unique to the individual undergoing the procedure, so in order to learn more about precisely how your breast augmentation would be performed, it is important to schedule a consultation with our experienced plastic surgeon.

What Is the Recovery Process Like After MTF Breast Surgery?

Following your MTF top surgery, you can expect to experience temporary soreness, swelling, and bruising. Your breasts will be bandaged and wrapped in a compression garment to minimize swelling. The details of your recovery will be unique to your procedure and your natural rate of healing; however, most patients are able to return to their normal low-impact daily activities within a span of five to seven days. Dr. Houssock recommends avoiding any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for three to six weeks depending on your progress. After about six months swelling typically subsides and your skin, soft tissue, and muscle should soften and relax, revealing much of your final result. Incisions may appear reddish and raised at first, however they should continue to heal and improve. After a year, scar tissue should fade and flatten considerably.

How Much Does MTF Breast Surgery Cost?

Pricing for MTF breast surgery at our practice starts at $8,050. The variability in price is typically due to the unique details of each patient’s procedure, which makes it necessary to schedule a consultation with Dr. Houssock to determine an accurate estimate for the overall cost of your customized MTF top surgery. Factors that can impact the cost of your MTF breast surgery may include:

  • The complexity of your procedure
  • The type, size, shape, projection, and fill material of your chosen breast implants
  • The approach used to accomplish your augmentation (incision location, implant placement, etc.)

Additionally, the estimate you receive after your consultation will include the surgeon’s fee, all follow-up visits, operating room fees, anesthesiology fees, and any necessary surgical garments. Since MTF top surgery is considered to be an elective cosmetic surgery, medical insurance does not provide coverage—this means that patients are responsible for paying the entire cost of the surgery. To help make MTF top surgery accessible to our patients, we accept many different payment methods, including major credit cards. We can also discuss plastic surgery financing opportunities offered by trusted third-party lenders, which can make paying for surgery more affordable than you may have imagined. Qualified applicants may be able to take advantage of budget-friendly low-/no-interest loans and flexible monthly payments. Our friendly office team is always happy to answer any of your questions about costs, scheduling, financing, and other procedure details.
