Compounded Minoxidil Formula

Home/Hair Restoration & Transplant Surgery/Compounded Minoxidil Formula

According to the American Hair Loss Association, two-thirds of American men will experience some degree of hair loss by the age of 35, and women make up 40% of American hair loss sufferers. To help those affected by hair loss, Dr. Carrie Houssock offers a broad spectrum of hair restoration solutions including hair transplant surgery and pharmaceutical-grade treatments.

There are a number of topical treatments on the market for hair loss sufferers, but few are as effective as those that include minoxidil. Minoxidil has been studied for roughly thirty years and has been proven to be effective for 85% of men and 60% of women who apply it twice a day. Our Compounded Minoxidil Formula is a topical product that deeply penetrates the scalp with a blend of 5% minoxidil and several other effective ingredients that work synergistically to treat androgenic alopecia. This powerful product can be capable of both slowing hair loss and regrowing hair, and is often combined with the medication Propecia® (finasteride), low level laser therapy (LLLT), and platelet rich plasma (PRP) to boost results.

If you are experiencing a receding hairline, thinning hair, or the appearance of bald spots, it is important to schedule an appointment with our surgeon. During your appointment, Dr. Houssock will perform a full examination and suggest the most appropriate hair restoration options for your unique needs.

Frequently Asked Questions about Compounded Minoxidil Formula

For those who are curious about treating hair loss with Compounded Minoxidil Formula, Dr. Houssock has provided answers to some of the following commonly asked questions. If you have any questions about this treatment that are not addressed below, please contact our office so we may further assist you.

How do I know if I am experiencing hair loss?

If clumps of hair are ending up in the drain or hairbrush, your hairline is visibly receding, or your hair is simply diffusely thinning, you may be experiencing hair loss.

How does Compounded Minoxidil Formula work?

Minoxidil is a potent hair growth stimulator, which can cause dormant follicles to enter the growth phase of the hair cycle and weak follicles to produce longer, thicker, and more pigmented hair, when used as directed. Formula 82M is more powerful than over-the-counter minoxidil products like ROGAINE® due its high concentration of minoxidil and a specific blend of other ingredients. Depending on each patient’s individual needs, our surgeons may prescribe Formula 82M to support other hair growth treatments, such as low level laser therapy, platelet rich plasma (PRP), or even improve the success rate of hair transplants. It is also great for helping maintain the results after other treatments.

What areas are normally treated with Compounded Minoxidil Formula?

Compounded Minoxidil Formula can usually work where there are weakened or dormant hair follicles. This will vary from patient to patient, but common treatment areas are the top of the scalp and the temple areas.

How is Compounded Minoxidil Formula applied?

Most often our surgeon recommends applying a liberal amount of Compounded Minoxidil Formula to affected areas of the scalp or the entire scalp twice daily. Treatment with Compounded Minoxidil Formula is typically most effective when the product is spread evenly and allowed to absorb into the scalp. The preferred method of application is to apply in the morning after a shower when the scalp is warm and then before bedtime. The scalp will dry quickly after lotion application and the hair can be styled with a hairdryer, gel, and/or hair spray as desired minutes later. During your appointment, your surgeon will explain the precise details of your treatment step-by-step. If you ever have questions about applying Formula 82M, please contact our practice for clarification.

Why should I use Compounded Minoxidil Formula instead of ROGAINE®?

It is common for individuals who use the over-the-counter minoxidil products, such as ROGAINE®, to experience side effects that may include an itchy and/or oily scalp, and even some flaking (dandruff). Compounded Minoxidil Formula is more effective and user-friendly than ROGAINE®, and safe for both men and women.

Will Compounded Minoxidil Formula leave my hair greasy like ROGAINE® and ROGAINE® Foam?

NO! Compounded Minoxidil Formula is designed to absorb quickly and contains a corn-based solution. It also does not contain ingredients like propylene glycol, which is known to leave a sticky or sometimes oily residue.

When will I see results?

Compounded Minoxidil Formula may take 6-12 months to be noticeable, but small changes can sometimes be seen as early as 10 weeks into your application routine. Follow up appointments can give you a definitive answer as to whether or not treatments are proving to be effective.

How much does this treatment cost?

Compounded Minoxidil Formula is not usually covered by health insurance, however the cost of this effective product is significantly lower than surgical treatment methods. To learn more about the price of your treatment with Formula 82M, please contact our office to schedule a consultation. Our office accepts all major credit cards and offers treatment financing to make care more affordable for our patients.
