Breast Lift with Implants

What Is a Breast Lift with Implants?

A breast lift with implants (also called a breast lift with augmentation or breast augmentation mastopexy) combines surgical breast lift techniques with the placement of breast implants to elevate the position of the breasts on the chest wall and enhance breast size, shape, and firmness. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and aging can cause the breasts to become stretched, lose volume, and change shape—often creating a drooping, asymmetrical appearance. The goal of a breast lift with augmentation is to address specific changes with a personalized surgical plan that rejuvenates the structure and appearance of the breasts for a more youthful, symmetrical, and proportionate bustline.

Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift with Implants?

Women who are candidates for breast lift surgery with augmentation must be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. During a consultation, Dr. Houssock can review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and discuss your cosmetic breast concerns. If you are planning on becoming pregnant, it is a good idea to mention this to your surgeon. Ideally, breast lift candidates have finished expanding their family. While it is not dangerous to have more children after a breast lift, future pregnancies may alter the results. Women who have breastfed children prior to surgery, should retain the ability to do so following surgery depending on the techniques utilized.

If your plastic surgeon determines that you are an appropriate candidate, a custom surgical plan is developed based on your unique needs and goals. To help simplify the breast implant selection process, your surgeon can guide you through the available types, shapes, and sizes that align with your anatomical measurements, figure proportions, and desired look.

What Happens During a Breast Lift with Augmentation?

Breast lift surgery with augmentation is an outpatient procedure performed under IV sedation that usually takes between three to four hours to complete. During the procedure, Dr. Houssock uses a series of incisions to remove excess skin, reshape the breasts, and reposition the nipples. Depending on the details of your surgical plan, breast implants may be placed either before or after the lift is accomplished. When breast augmentation is completed with a lift, the implants are nearly always placed within a chest muscle pocket for added support.

What Can I Expect During Recovery from a Breast Lift with Augmentation?

You can expect to experience some initial swelling, soreness, and bruising following a breast lift with implants. Prescribed pain medication can help provide adequate relief from discomfort in the early days of recovery. The majority of patients are able to return to work and their normal activities after about a week of rest. Any strenuous activity or heavy lifting is to be avoided for the first six weeks. As your incisions heal, they may appear red and raised at first; however, with time and proper care, they should continue to fade and flatten considerably. It is important to attend all follow-up appointments with your surgeon to check for any complications and evaluate the progress of your recovery.
