As the warmer months of the year fade away, we’re all preparing our homes and our families for colder weather; but, in the same way that we prepare our house or our car for winter, we also need to make sure our skin is prepared for windy, dry, and chilly days and nights! Plastic surgeon Carrie Houssock, MD, our new partner here at JEV Plastic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics, was a guest on WBAL-TV on Sunday morning sharing her tips for transitioning your skincare routine from summer to winter.
Check out her interview below!
Here are Dr. Houssock’s tips:
1. Continue your sunblock.
Just because you’re spending more time indoors doesn’t mean you no longer need sunscreen! Even the sunlight coming through your car windows can be damaging. Wear sunscreen every day.
2. Add a deep moisturizer
Cold, windy weather always leads to dry skin. A deep moisturizer will keep your skin hydrated and glowing.
3. Exfoliate!
Exfoliating rejuvenates dull skin and reduces signs of aging, but more importantly, it will help your moisturizer penetrate more deeply into the skin.
4. Consider a deeper treatment for more severe damage.
Do you have sun spots, redness, or other damage caused by summer sun? Make an appointment with us so we can check your skin’s health and go over your options. Many patients benefit from a peel, laser, or injection treatment—like microdermabrasion, Photofacial™, or PRP.
5. Schedule your yearly skin cancer check.
A yearly skin exam is crucial to ensuring that your skin is healthy and you are skin cancer-free. Autumn and winter are the perfect seasons for scheduling a check-up since you’re spending more time indoors.
